The DataPlow Nasan file system is operating system software that facilitates high-speed file sharing among multiple client computers.  This best-of-breed file system incorporates the simplified administration of network attached storage (NAS) with the high-bandwidth, scalable data transfer characteristics of storage area networks (SANs).  The Nasan file system is ideal for read-intensive applications including enterprise serving, webserving, CAD, bioinformatics, digital media, scientific computing, imaging, graphic design, and datamining.

The Nasan file system maintains the straightforward deployment and maintenance of NAS.  As the figure below illustrates, deploying a Nasan environment simply entails configuring NAS file sharing, installing Nasan file sharing software, and connecting computers and storage devices to the SAN.  Upgrading a NAS environment that currently uses SAN-ready storage, such as Fibre Channel (FC) or iSCSI, merely involves installing software and connecting the SAN; downtime is minimal because all previously stored files remain unaffected by the upgrade.  Ongoing system maintenance is unchanged given that the Nasan file system utilizes NAS administrative tools for backups, recovery, volume management, and storage resource management (SRM).

Nasan is fully compatible with existing applications and environments.  Nasan software currently supports Sun Microsystems Solaris and Linux operating systems; other platforms will soon be available.   To request additional DataPlow Nasan file system information, please click here.
